I joined up with Caraldines ‘transform your health’ program back in january ’25 & to say it worked (weighless) wonders for me doesn’t give it enough justice.
Being an avid runner the last 15 years most people would expect that I wouldn’t, or shouldn’t, have an issue with weight. when, in fact, I absolutely do.
People would say, ‘oh your tall, you can get away with it’ or sure ‘you don’t need to lose weight, your fine as you are’, & in a way they were right, & I was happy enough with this connotation for some years.
But from a BMI perspective, I knew at my heaviest weight of 12st 12lbs in recent years, or a BMI of 26.8, that I was in the overweight category. strip the emotions from it all, the figures don’t lie!
Caraldine straight away recommended a nutritional plan in understanding the GI, & its role in weight loss, metabolism & thyroidism.
I was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism over 12 years ago now & at my heaviest weight, in my 20s, I was 15 stone 1lb.
My whole life I always carried weight unfortunately, & I now put this down to a sluggish metabolism due to my underactive thyroid.
Hypothyroidism can slow metabolism, making weight management challenging, & I have learnt through the TYH program that low GI foods help regulate the energy levels, without putting extra stress on the thyroid gland.
& low GI foods may also reduce inflammation, which is beneficial for thyroid health.
& low GI foods also support steady energy release, which helps maintain a balanced metabolic rate.
& reducing blood sugar spikes can minimise insulin resistance, a condition linked to a slower metabolism & difficulty losing weight
One of the initiatives available on the TYH program is the body composition analyser where your visceral fat rating is identified & my latest reading on that from july 25 is 3! & it says also that I have a metabolic age of 32 when I am in fact 47! My weigh in on this day was 69.1kg giving me a BMI of 22.5. & with a physique rating of ‘thin & muscular’.
My weight on 2nd jan 2025 was 79.9kg!
I am over the moon to be at this weight still today & I am currently on a maintenence program with Caraldine & weighless wonders.
Exercise & fitness is huge for me & I am now in the heighth of marathon training again, as I prepare to take on my 5th marathon next month, the dublin city marathon. Managing a diet whilst marathon training can be tricky where FUEL is very much required to breed success for this race. carb loading for the long runs & the race itself, & managing the protein intake for muscle progression & recovery, can be challenging to the untrained eye! I know I need to optimise myself as best as possible so I can be as fit as possible for race day. wish me luck 🍀
pictures are of me running the marathon in the paris olympics last summer …
